Floors for Plain City's Shops and Outbuildings
Plain City has room to spread out, and that changes what epoxy flooring means here. Wikipedia's history of the town says settlers led by Lorin Farr arrived on March 17, 1859, and laid out a grid of 5-acre blocks, each split into four lots. Those big lots are still part of the town's character. Many homes here have a detached shop, a pole building or an oversized garage beside the house, and those floors are where we do much of our work.
A town built around hauling
Plain City has deep roots in trucking. Chester Rodney England founded C.R. England in 1920 to haul produce for nearby farmers. A C.R. England driver from the 1940s, Carl Moyes, later started his own leasing company before his family moved to Phoenix, where Swift Transportation began. The town still has its share of people who own trucks, trailers and heavy equipment. Their shop floors take diesel drips, hydraulic leaks, jack stands and tire chains.
What a working shop floor needs
A shop slab is a different job from a tidy two-car garage. We build it heavier and think first about what will sit on it.
- Thicker build: our shop and warehouse floor epoxy is applied heavier so it can take rolling loads and dropped parts
- Chemical resistance: a topcoat chosen to handle oil, coolant, brake fluid and diesel without softening
- Grip: added aggregate for floors that get wet from washing equipment or melting snow
- Line striping: optional lines for bays, walkways or a welding area
We also look at drains, floor slope and the large doors on pole buildings. A shop that opens to a gravel yard brings in grit every day. A sealed floor makes that grit easy to sweep and keeps fluids from soaking into the concrete.
Older slabs in the original townsite
Plain City incorporated in 1944, and some homes near the old center have garages and outbuildings poured decades ago. Those slabs can be uneven, cracked or stained deep with oil. Some have no vapor barrier under them. We check for moisture and contamination before we quote. Deep oil stains may need extra grinding or a cleaning step so the coating does not lift later.
Newer homes on the west side of the county
The town has also grown fast. The 2020 census counted 7,833 residents, up 43% from 5,476 in 2010. Newer houses usually come with three-car garages and wide driveways. For those we often install flake epoxy floors with a polyaspartic topcoat. The flakes hide dust from nearby fields, and the topcoat holds its color in the afternoon sun.
Mud season
Western Weber County is flat, open ground. In spring and after storms, tires and boots carry mud straight into garages and shops. Bare concrete stains and holds that dirt. A coated floor lets you push it out with a squeegee or rinse it with a hose. A textured topcoat keeps the floor from getting slick while you do.
Getting a number
We walk the shop or garage with you, measure it, and ask what you park and store there. Then we write up a quote that names the system, the prep and every coat. Call (385) 494-4061 or

- A planned grid of big lots. The 1859 townsite was laid out as a grid six blocks long and three blocks wide. Each block was 5 acres and divided into four lots.
- Trucking started here. Chester Rodney England founded C.R. England Trucking in 1920 to haul produce for local farmers, and a former C.R. England driver's family later helped start Swift Transportation.
- Strong recent growth. The 2020 census counted 7,833 residents, a 43% increase from 5,476 in 2010, with a 2022 estimate of 8,321.
- Incorporated in 1944. Settlers led by Lorin Farr arrived on March 17, 1859, and Plain City incorporated as a city in 1944.

Plain City Questions
Can you coat a pole building with a large overhead door?
Yes, if it has a concrete slab. We grind and coat the floor right up to the door line. For a door that opens to gravel or dirt, we suggest a textured topcoat and a good mat or apron so grit is easier to manage.
Will epoxy hold up to a tractor or a loaded trailer?
A properly built shop system handles parked equipment and rolling loads. Steel tracks, chains on ice and dragged implements can still gouge any coating. We talk through what you use and size the system to match.
My shop floor has years of oil soaked in. Can it still be coated?
Often it can. We grind the stained areas, clean out what we can and test the surface. If the oil is too deep to remove, we tell you before you pay, because a coating will not bond over it.
