Epoxy for Hooper's Rural Homes

Hooper is about as rural as Weber County gets, and our epoxy flooring work here reflects that. Wikipedia notes the city's boundary runs out into the Great Salt Lake and takes in Fremont Island. The city covers 26.10 square miles of land plus a much larger area of lake. For a town of 9,087 people at the 2020 census, that is a lot of room. Homes sit on acreage, and many have a garage plus a shop, barn or equipment shed.

A farm town that became a city in 2000

Hooper was settled in 1854. It was first called Muskrat Springs, then Hooperville, after William Henry Hooper, an early Utah delegate to Congress. It stayed unincorporated for almost 150 years. Voters approved incorporation on May 2, 2000, and it became a city that November. That long rural history shows up in the buildings. We see older outbuildings with rough slabs next to newer homes with clean, wide garages.

Tomato fields and working floors

Tomatoes were once the center of life here. The town's Tomato Days festival has run for nearly 100 years and started as a celebration of the harvest. Large tomato fields are less common now, but plenty of Hooper households still farm, keep animals or run equipment. Those floors deal with:

  • Mud and gravel tracked in from fields and long driveways
  • Fertilizer, fuel and oil spills
  • Heavy equipment parked for the winter
  • Wash-down water from cleaning tools and machines

Which systems fit

Shop and warehouse floor epoxy is our pick for equipment sheds and large shops. It goes on thicker and uses a chemical-resistant topcoat. We add grip for floors that get washed down.

Garage floor epoxy and flake floors suit the attached garage at the house. A full flake broadcast hides the dust that blows in off open ground.

Polyaspartic floor coating helps when you need the space back quickly, such as before harvest or before winter storage.

Basement floor epoxy works in homes with dry basements. We always test moisture first.

Older outbuilding slabs

Outbuildings in farm country were often poured without much attention to finish or slope. Some are thin, some have settled, and some have years of oil and fertilizer in the surface. We look at all of it before we price the job. If a slab is broken up or heaving, we tell you a coating will not fix it. Then you can decide on concrete repair first.

Close to the lake

Hooper sits on low, flat ground near the Great Salt Lake. Some slabs here stay damp or show white efflorescence, the mineral residue left when water moves up through concrete. A moisture test tells us whether a standard system will hold or whether the slab needs a moisture-tolerant primer. We note the result on your quote. Testing takes a few minutes during the estimate, and it saves you from paying for a floor that lifts in its first spring.

Hooper Questions

Do you travel out to rural Hooper properties?

Yes. Hooper is part of our regular service area. If you have more than one building to coat, we can look at all of them on the same visit and price them together.

Can you coat a barn or shed floor that is not level?

A coating follows the slab, so it will not level a floor. We can grind high spots and fill low ones and cracks. If the slab is badly out of level or broken, it needs concrete work before any coating.

What is the white powder on my garage floor?

That is usually efflorescence, minerals carried up by moisture in the slab. It is a sign we need to test before coating. Sometimes a moisture-tolerant primer solves it. Sometimes the water source needs attention first.
